iMovie on iPhone3GS (video + guide)

Mετά το multitasking και την δυνατότητα αλλαγής wallpaper στο iPhone3G,ήρθε και η σειρά του 3GS, να απολαύσει ένα προνόμιο το οποίο η μαμά Apple προόριζε μόνο για το νέο της παιδί.

Το iMovie !

Η επίσημη αιτιολογία μη υποστήριξης του iMovie, απο το iPhone3GS, είναι η μισή RAM (256MB), σε σχέση με τα 512ΜΒ του iPhone4.
Τα παιδιά στο Redmond Pie είχαν διαφορετική άποψη,και έτσι μην έχοντας τίποτα να χάσουν δοκίμασαν να το μεταφέρουν και να το τεστάρουν στο 3GS.

Όπως θα δείτε στο παρακάτω βίντεο,το iMovie συμπεριφέρεται άψογα στο iPhone3GS.

Modifying iMovie for iPhone 3GS

Step 1: First up, you will have to purchase and download iMovie from iTunes. Here is the iTunes link.

Step 2: Once you have done that, locate the .ipa file on your computer and change its extension from .ipa to .zip.

Step 3: Extract the contents of the .zip file. Now right click on iMovie, and click on “Show Package Contents”.

Step 4: Now locate the info.plist file and open it using any text editor like TextWrangler.

Step 5: Search for this string, and change “<true/>” to “<false/>”:

</dict>

Changing this string will make the app run on any iPhone and iPod touch as long as it is running iOS 4. Now according to the source who tipped us off, you can also run it on non-iOS 4 devices i.e. devices running the old 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 firmware by changing “4.0.0” to “3.0.0” in the following string. I tried this step to run iMovie on my iPad but with no success.

Step 6: This is it. Now compress the entire folder again to .zip and change the extension to .ipa.

Syncing it to your iPhone

Step 7: You should now be able to sync this file using iTunes.

In case if that doesn’t work for you, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod touch on iOS 4, then use installous to install this modified version of .ipa file. What you will need to do is to make sure you have OpenSSH and installous installed. Now use any software like Cyberduck on Mac, or WinSCP on Windows to transfer this .ipa file to the following location:

/private/var/mobile/Documents/Installous/Downloads

Now simply install it using installous app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
